Edmund
Kennedy National Park
The
national park was proclaimed in honour of Edmund Kennedy,
head of the ill-fated overland expedition from Rockingham
Bay to Cape York in 1848.
A flat, 3km walking track provides access
to varied vegetation. The 6200 hectare park contains four major vegetation types,
from remnant dune areas and mangrove swamps, through open eucalypt forest to rainforest.
The walking
track includes sections of boardwalk which allow easy access
to the normally inaccessible mangroves. Wear covering clothes.
Insect repellent is a must.
From the Bruce Highway, turn right into
Clift Road, 4km North of Cardwell (just after Meunga Creek).
The entrance to the park is about lkm from the highway, and
the beach a further 4km. Driving is prohibited on the beach.
