Situated half-way between Townsville and Cairns, Cardwell is the centre of a vast natural wonderland - world heritage rainforests, waterfalls, swimming holes, wilderness tracks, white water rafting, canoeing, crabbing, fishing and prawning.

Cardwell is the gateway to Hinchinbrook Island, Australia's largest Island National Park. Uninhabited, except for an eco lodge at Cape Richards, the island abounds in flora, fauna, crystal streams, palm-fringed beaches and mangrove waterways.
The Thorsborne Trail along the island's eastern side is a world renowned four to five day hiking track. The less energetic or those pressed for time can see the island on a day cruise or scenic flight.

Launch your boat into the sheltered waters of the Hinchinbrook Channel or venture seaward to nearby islands or to the Great Barrier Reef. Take a scenic flight, a cruise, or go snorkelling or scuba diving. From Cardwell, branch out on self-drive trips or coach tours to Mission Beach, Tully Gorge, Wallaman Falls (Australia's highest single drop waterfall) or the remote Blencoe Falls. Also within easy reach are adventure trips: white water rafting, sea kayaking and skydiving to name a few.
